Sprint 0 Training is a one day course in which the team gathers together in a working session. The team works together to:
• Identify Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Team.
• Identify and define interfaces in multi-team (Scrum of Scrums) projects
• Setup Scrum team room (task board, burndown chart, etc.).
• Setup Scrum software (Rally, Version One, etc.).
• Develop draft Product Backlog
• Define Sprint schedule
• Define Release schedule
• Define ‘done’
A typical draft agenda is as follows:
9:00am – 10:00am Team Composition and Interfaces
Identify the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Team members. Identify who will interface with the team. Identify other Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Team members in a multi-team (Scrum of Scrum) environment.
10:00am – 10:30am Schedule
Select length of sprint. Determine when and where all key meetings (Sprint Planning, Sprint Demo, Sprint Retrospective, and Daily Scrum) take place. Determine who will participate in each meeting.
10:30am – 10:45am Break
10:45am – 12:30pm Product Backlog Session I
The team gathers all product backlog related materials (specifications, requirements, wire diagrams, etc.) and creates a rough product backlog. Define ‘done’.
12:30pm – 1:30pm Lunch
1:30pm – 2:30pm Tool training
The team learns how to use its agile software development tool (Rally, Version One).
2:30pm – 3:30pm Product Backlog II
The team further refines the product backlog and enters it into the tool.
3:30pm – 3:45pm Break
3:45pm – 4:15pm Setup Team Room
Create burndown chart and task board.
4:15pm – 5:00pm Meta Retrospective
The team conducts a meta retrospective and creates an action plan for successfully implementing agile.
